Skip Counting Turkeys

Thanksgiving skip counting turkeys

Skip counting turkeys – a jolly math craft for revising skip counting patterns this Thanksgiving.

Need to practice skip counting patterns? Then what better way than with the help of a thanksgiving turkey!

Today’s post shines a spotlight on one of our math crafts: Skip Counting Turkeys.

These jolly turkey math crafts are a fun activity for any time of year, but they’re particularly fitting for Thanksgiving.

And the best thing? The finished turkeys look great on display once they’re decorated. Stick them on the wall at home, or, decorate the classroom with skip counting turkeys at school. They look so cheery.

If you want to know more about these skip counting turkeys, including how to make them, all the details are below.

Tell me about this skip counting turkey craft

This math activity is designed to practise skip counting patterns.

It’s a great activity for children just starting out with skip counting, or it’s also a fun and creative way to revise skip counting patterns too. No writing is required – just cutting and glueing.

This resource has 9 different versions of the same activity (for skip counting by 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9) so that you can choose the skip counting patterns that your child or students need to practise.

If you’re a teacher using this resource in the classroom, every student can be making the same turkey craft, whilst practising different skip counting patterns.

Once children have completed coloured their turkeys, they look fantastic on display.

How to make a skip counting turkey

These turkeys are simple to complete. Start by printing the skip counting version that you want. For example, we’re working on skip counting by 2.

Next, I’d recommend colouring/painting the different parts of the turkey.

The next step is to cut out the numbered circles.

Add the numbers in skip counting order, from left to right, onto the turkey. You will see that the first number (in our case, 2) is already there.

You can see here that our turkey is for skip counting by 2, so the numbers go in order from left to right: 2, 4, 6, 8 10 etc.

Double check your skip counting order and then glue the numbers down.

If you want to, you can then cut out the turkey. And you’re done!
