Ladybug Doubles (Puzzles and More!)

LADYBUG DOUBLES PUZZLES

Doubles practice with a ladybug theme

It’s so important that children know their doubles. And, just like with any math facts, learning doubles takes practice and repetition.

Today, I have a fun resource that will help children revise their doubles facts. And, what better way to practise doubles than with the help of ladybugs.

This new resource is called: Ladybug Doubles. It includes puzzles, roll and cover/colour activities, plus printables too. And with its ladybug theme, it ties in nicely with many spring and summer classroom topics.

Want to see what’s included? Then let’s have a look.

Tell me about this Ladybug Doubles resource.

This resource has three different types of activity to ensure doubles practice doesn’t become a chore. All activities are focused on doubles from 1+1 up to 12+12.

Puzzles

The first activity included in this doubles resource is a set of puzzles.

Included are twelve colour puzzles for revising doubles 1+1 all the way up to 12+12.

The puzzles are nice and big (there are two puzzles per letter-sized page) and they make a great hands-on activity for the classroom, or to use at home.

These puzzles are self-checking so two pieces will only fit together is the math is correct. Children will enjoy being able to complete these puzzles independently as they’ll get instant feedback as to whether their math is correct of not.

To prep, cut out all the puzzles and then cut each puzzle in two along the wavy line. Jumble up the puzzle pieces and challenge your child (or students) to put the puzzles back together so that all the doubles facts are correct.

Each puzzle shows the number sentence as well as ladybug pictures underneath. If children know their doubles, they may be able to complete the puzzle without needing the pictures. However, if children need, they can count the ladybugs on each leaf to help them.

Roll and Cover/Colour

Next we have two roll and cover (or colour!) activities.

The first roll and cover sheet is for rolling one dice (doubling numbers 1 to 6), and the second is for rolling two dice (and doubling numbers 2 to 12).

The same two activities are included in three different versions:

  • roll and cover (colour ink – laminate and use for a math center)
  • roll and colour (colour the leaves – independent activity)
  • roll and color (same as above but with the US spelling of ‘color’)

For the roll and cover activities, little printable ladybug squares are included. Alternatively, you could use anything small such as counters, mini erasers or counting bears to cover the numbers.

Printables

And finally, at the end of the resource you’ll find three printable activities. The first is a colour-the-answers activity, the second a writing activity and the third a doubles fact maze.

These are no prep and make a great review activity.

Where can I find these Ladybug Doubles?

These are available now in our TPT online store.

But wait! Did you know that this ladybug resource is also included in our ‘In the Backyard’ math bundle?

The bundle is a collection of four fun, hands-on math activities for young children, which includes: Ladybug Doubles, Butterfly Numbers 1 to 10, Teen Number Flower Puzzles, and Bees and Hives Sorting Activity (addition/subtraction within 10).
